How can we help you?

Providing social value advice and expertise to developers in South Yorkshire

SY Ecofit works with developers to embed social value into projects, improving building performance and reducing environmental impact. As a not-for-profit, we reinvest profits into local projects and collaborate with community groups to create lasting benefits.

Our work delivers the following:

  • Community-centred retrofit and clean energy projects

  • Develops skills and green jobs in South Yorkshire

  • Grows local supply chains

  • Engages communities in meaningful climate action.

By partnering with SY Ecofit, you support a local social enterprise, whilst reducing operational energy costs and strengthening supply chains, as well as demonstrate leadership on climate action.

How we can help developers:

  • Energy strategy consultancy to design building strategies that maximise efficiency, reduce heat loss and maintenance costs and prepare for low-carbon heating systems

  • SY Ecofit’s in-house install team can tender for work packages such as loft insulation, high performance glazing and lime-based plasters, reinvesting any surplus into local retrofit and clean energy projects

  • Integrate skills training into your project, using retrofit works to upskill local contractors and new entrants, including in heritage building techniques

  • Design and deliver on-site renewable energy systems such as solar PV installations, with capital raised through community share offers to keep energy revenue in the local economy

  • Embed community engagement through workshops and by integrating your development into community-centred retrofit, building a sense of local ownership and long-term collaboration

Delivery of grant-funded and independent projects to institutions

SY Ecofit works with churches, community centres, and other institutions to reduce running costs, improve comfort, and cut carbon emissions. We manage projects from initial assessment and design through to installation, ensuring quality, compliance, and minimal disruption.

How we can help community buildings and institutions:

  • Deliver PAS 2035-compliant assessments, design, and installation to ensure eligibility for grant funding programmes such as SHDF

  • Provide tailored energy efficiency upgrades including insulation, glazing, ventilation, and renewable energy systems for heritage and community spaces

  • Help to reduce heating demand and improve year-round comfort for staff, volunteers, and visitors

  • Prioritise the use of sustainable, breathable materials that are appropriate for older or heritage properties

  • Reinvest profits into local projects and offer training opportunities for South Yorkshire contractors

Our Case Studies

Roof insulation at Common Ground Community Centre, Abbeydale Road

St Peter’s Church Hall, now known as Common Ground Community Centre, serves as a vibrant, volunteer-led venue for meetings, arts, gardening, and community events in Nether Edge and Sharrow. To improve energy efficiency and reduce heating costs, SY Ecofit worked with Common Ground to detail a specification and install loft insulation. This retrofit project supports the Centre’s mission to provide affordable, warm, and sustainable community space for all.

Roof insulation and double-glazing at St Augustine’s Church, Brocco Bank

At St Augustine’s heritage community church, we improved comfort and reduced heat loss by upgrading the loft insulation, replacing existing insulation with improved, durable materials, and renewing upper-level flooring, as well as adding secondary glazing.

These upgrades enhance both thermal and acoustic performance, ensuring the space remains warm, quiet, and welcoming for worship and community gatherings for many years to come.
