Invest in Sheffield’s community-owned clean energy transition

The SY Ecofit team have established a new Community Benefit Sociey, Sheffield Energy Works, to raise and manage the funds for community-owned renewable energy projects right here on our doorstep.

Sheffield Energy Works’ first Community Share Offer is now open, giving local people the chance to invest directly in clean energy for one of Sheffield’s best-loved farms. We’re building a growing group of local investors who want to see community-owned clean energy powering local food production. Shares start from just £5, with expected annual interest of up to 4%, subject to project performance.

The reMooable Energy project at Our Cow Molly will install renewable energy technology that helps cut carbon, protect local food production from rising energy costs, and show what community-owned climate action can look like in South Yorkshire.

What’s planned: barn-roof solar panels and a 37kW anaerobic digester at Our Cow Molly dairy farm.

Climate impact: expected to meet around 90% of the farm’s electricity demand and cut more than 225,000kg of CO2 each year.

Community benefit: local ownership, stronger energy resilience, and more value kept in the region.

Investment range: invest from £5 to £60,000, making the offer accessible to individuals, families, businesses and organisations.

Investor return: expected annual interest of up to 4%, subject to project performance.

Wider ambition: this flagship project will help Sheffield Energy Works build a pipeline of community energy schemes across South Yorkshire.
